Gas Fireplace Repair & Service

When needing the services for a gas fireplace we recommend you hire a professionally trained and licensed gas fitter. They’ll ensure your equipment is installed and operating safely and operating to code.

You should be aware of all type of deceptive door-to-door sales tactics that claim to have FortisBC or Safety Authority backing. FortisBC and Technical Safety BC will never perform or authorize others to perform unsolicited inspections on home equipment, including meters, or visit homeowners to sell or repair any products.

What to look for when hiring a gas fireplace repair technician

Look for a gas contractor that:

  • is licensed with Technical Safety BC and employs certified gas fitters
  • is bonded and insured for liability and property damage
  • offers warranties covering service, repair, materials and labor
  • offers maintenance and service after installation and after warranties have expired
  • provides customer references
  • is in good standing when it comes to complains
  • After the service, ask the gas contractor for a copy of their completed service checklist.

Basic fireplace safety measures

Keep small children, pets and combustibles away from hot surfaces. Installing a safety screen and/or a fire-resistant hearth guard may help prevent young children from touching the glass panels of a natural gas fireplace.

If your fireplace is being installed in a home during construction or renovations, do not operate it until the area is thoroughly cleaned. Drywall dust and other contaminants may harm the fan, motors and burners.

Warning signs from your gas fireplace

If it happens that the pilot flame on your gas fireplace has gone out; or, after you turn on the main switch or thermostat the burners and pilot flame both die. If you cannot relight that pilot flame after several times, give us a call to discuss your needs. We carry many gas fireplace repair parts with us. The chances are that we can fix your gas fireplace in few hours.

If your fireplace is malfunctioning or in need of service, you’re likely to experience warning signs such as:

  • pilot light outages
  • “booming” noises upon ignition
  • delayed ignition (slow to start up)
  • excessive soot or corrosion inside the fireplace or on the vent
  • a “rotten egg” or sulphur smell (that’s the odourant in the natural gas) that may cause eyes to sting
  • symptoms of the presence of carbon monoxide: nausea, headaches, lethargy or other flu-like symptoms
